Quentin Tarantino is one of the most renowned and award-winning directors in Hollywood. Quentin himself acted on stage in a production of Our Town while he was still in high school. While attending college at the University of Southern California film school, he created his first masterpiece - the short film My Best Friend's Birthday—which won several awards at various film festivals around the country. It would be eight years before he created another movie again. Quentin Tarantino is just one example of why knowing your dream job early on can be so important! The Early Years Quentin Tarantino was born on March 27th, 1963, to Tony Tarantino and Connie Zastoupil. In 1992, Tarantino had been working on a screenplay for a new movie called Reservoir Dogs. He had been talking about it with friends and acquaintances for some time before it came to fruition, but after that initial success, Tarantino went on to create Pulp Fiction in 1994, which won him two Academy Awards for Best Screenplay and Best Director. Pulp Fiction, Reservoir Dogs, Kill Bill, The Hateful Eight Quentin Tarantino has directed many films that have become iconic in Hollywood, including Pulp Fiction, Reservoir Dogs, Kill Bill, and The Hateful Eight. All of these films are known for their uniquely stylized dialogue and violent sequences. Pulp Fiction is one of Quentin Tarantino’s most prominent films. The 1994 film tells the story of two mob hitmen, Vincent Vega (John Travolta) and Jules Winnfield (Samuel L. Jackson), who are out on the job to collect a briefcase for their boss Marsellus Wallace (Ving Rhames). They come across a couple of crooks, Pumpkin (Tim Roth) and Honey Bunny (Amanda Plummer), who has just robbed a restaurant that was owned by Wallace. That night at dinner, Pumpkin tells Jules about what had happened at the restaurant earlier in the day. The next day they go back to get information from Pumpkin's associate Lance, but he refuses to tell them anything or where they can find Pumpkin and Honey Bunny. Reversely enough, it is later revealed that Lance was actually Honey Bunny all along! It ends with Vincent Vega being shot up while Jules shoots down everyone else in the house before shooting himself in the face with his own gun to avoid getting arrested as Vincent did. Reservoir Dogs is another Quentin Tarantino film that portrays violence in an iconic way. This 1992 film shows how six criminals carry out a diamond robbery then end. Thoughts on Tarantino's Films Quentin Tarantino is a director that has a unique style. His films are usually filled with clever dialogue and violence, if not both. Although he has directed many different types of movies, Quentin Tarantino's best work is his earlier works. Pulp Fiction won him an Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay in 1994. This film follows the intertwining lives of two mob hitmen (played by John Travolta and Samuel L. Jackson), their boss (played by Uma Thurman), and her boyfriend (played by Bruce Willis) in three separate incidents before coming together at the end in one dramatic climax. Tarantino has said that this film was made to make people laugh; however, it still manages to be violent and suspenseful. Another one of his more popular films is Reservoir Dogs, which also won him an Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay in 1992. The movie focuses on six men who carry out a diamond heist but can't agree on how to split up the loot after the successful mission ensues. One of these men is Mr. Blonde (played by Michael Madsen), who uses the sharp knife he packed for slicing fruit to slice off one of their colleague's ears when they can't find what they're looking for - this scene attracts viewers' attention because it defies the usual Hollywood stereotype where violence often occurs off-screen or away from the audience's sightlines. Quentin Tarantino is an uncommonly prolific filmmaker. His films are iconic, with twists and turns that are unparalleled. His films are the best of the best, and with his latest release, The Hateful Eight, he has created yet another masterpiece that will stand the test of time. Quentin Tarantino is the genius behind Hollywood's biggest hits.
